Boreal Grid

Remote Microgrid Solutions

Our Values + Mission

Boreal (Northern) Grid was derived to convey core values of remote communities across the North—resilience, reliability, and respect.  We have found that these principles are often reflected in the people we serve in isolated regions around the world.  At Boreal Grid, we strive to embody these same tenets in every project we undertake.

Boreal Grid promotes the advancement of microgrid and renewable energy projects by enabling communities, developers, and energy users with a specific focus on remote and isolated applications. The projects that we take on often involve technical, commercial, logistical, or cultural complications which have previously hindered progress. We embrace these challenges, providing end-to-end development capacity and technical services which mitigate risks and guide projects towards a successful outcome.

Project Development
Services

Boreal Grid’s core capability is in providing end-to-end capacity support for the renewable energy project development life-cycle This scope focuses on the management of each critical project phase, delivering clear project updates, identifying and managing risks, tracking progress towards milestones, serving as the customers POC as needed, and ensuring successful project delivery.

Technical Services

In addition to Project Development Services, we also recognizes that there are several tasks within the development process where specific technical support is needed. Boreal Grid is able to provide the following services as a part of development services, or as a stand-alone deliverable.

Feasibility Level System Design

Generation of 10% (Class D) microgrid system design including projectlayouts, SLD’s, high level specifications, and majorequipment lists through the inverter or the POI

Production Modeling

Estimation of resource generation including confidence intervals (P50, P90, P95) and 8760 analysis using industry standard tools like Helioscope or PVSyst.

Microgrid Commissioning

Oversight of individual equipment or site level tasks and/or hands-on conduction of commissioning to ensure a smooth transition from construction to operations.

Microgrid Optimization

Optimization of project sizing at the system and subcomponents level based on a variety of technical and economic criteria including LCOE, capital cost, operating costs, environmental impact, payback/IRR, etc. using tools such as Homer or Energy Toolbase.

Project Finance Modeling

Generation and customization of a detailed, excel-based, project financial model. This focuses on larger scale projects with variable revenue streams and operating costs which are subject to complex bankability reviews as a requirement for external investment. For smaller projects which are internally funded, tools like Energy Toolbase can be used.
